How to feel Powerful
Everybody has their challenges. Everybody is doing their best. Yet we are often too critical of ourselves. Too critical of each other. Too critical of the details that ultimately make little difference. Or at least make a lot less difference to our lives than we’d like to think.
I used to say: “Everything Matters”. Focusing on every detail as an attempt to ensure inclusivity of actions, high performance and encourage reflection. Now, I realise that this is not always true. For some things don’t matter. We give some things importance that is not deserving and serve only to pass judgement; primarily on ourselves and the closest people to us.
To accept is to be brave. It takes courage and bravery to accept rather than critique.
Recently I’ve been thinking: it may be better to “Accept What Matters” and acknowledge what doesn’t matter or is of little consequence. To accept is to be brave. It takes courage and bravery to accept rather than critique. Why? Because in my opinion, as individuals we associate acceptance with not achieving. We associate and correlate acceptance with not caring enough to strive, to achieve, to be perfect. As women in particular, we focus on making everything matter.
Acceptance ≠ Giving Up
Acceptance is perhaps our greatest achievement. For it is with acceptance that real change can occur. With it comes clear thinking, balanced views, greater focus and above all else peace and power.
As a woman, I know that feeling powerful and at peace gives me the greatest satisfaction and indeed the greatest sense of achievement.
Today, on International Women’s Day, let’s celebrate as one. Men and Women together. Today, I #ChooseToChallenge our pursuit of making everything matter and instead I choose #Acceptance.
